Mary Elizabeth Benson and Stuart Nathanael Smith were united in marriage on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh. Music was presented by Dr. Ed Bach, trumpeter and Mrs. Bonnie Bach, harpist.
Following the ceremony the parents of the bride hosted a reception at The Greystone Inn in Durham. On Friday evening the parents of the groom hosted the rehearsal dinner at Bogart's in Raleigh.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Chris Benson of Raleigh. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Richard Bertels, Mrs. Nancy Noren, and Mr. and Mrs. Lanny Benson. The bride graduated summa cum laude receiving a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from N.C. State University. She will be employeed by KPMG in Greensboro as an audit associate.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Smith of Greensboro. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Smith, Mrs. Elois Engle, and the late Mr. Elmer Engle. The groom graduated summa cum laude receiving a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from N.C. State University. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He is employeed with KJ Smith Builders & Realty, Inc. in Greensboro.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents. She was attended by Lauren Hayward as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Heidi Charron, Christa Hayes, Kelly McGill, Jennifer Wilt, and the sister of the groom Kristin Staley. Rebecca Benson, cousin of the bride, was the flower girl.
The groom chose his father as best man. Groomsmen were Patrick Killela, Sean Carroll, Matthew Stephenson, Michael Peace and Robert Lowery. John Benson, brother of the bride, was the ring bearer.
The couple honeymooned in Las Vegas, Nev. They will reside in Greensboro.
