John East of Rockingham had a sand save on the third playoff hole to win the Championship Flight in the Harris Teeter Senior Tour event on Friday at Pinewood Country Club in Asheboro.
Both East and Cary's James Dill finished with even-par 72s. They halved the first two playoff holes with pars, and then faced the 193-yard, par-3 12th hole. Dill struck his tee shot on the green, while East found a sand trap.
"I just chunked the ball out of the bunker," said East, who made a 25-foot putt for par.
East earned an invitation to the Tour Championship in Pinehurst in November. Greensboro's Mark Campanella will also attend after shooting 88 to win C Flight.
Greensboro's George Kennon and David Michaels tied for fourth in the Championship Flight with 75s.
