The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office has identified a man found dead Wednesday in the backyard of a Stoneville home.
The victim is Mark Williams of 151 Carmel Road in Stoneville, said sheriff's office spokesman Dean Venable. Venable said it appears Williams died of a gunshot wound. An autopsy will be performed, he said.
No one has been charged in connection with Williams' death. But during the investigation, authorities found Herbert Bethea of 340 Young Road in Stoneville in possession of a gun. Venable said Bethea is a convicted felon. He was charged with felony possession of a firearm. Bethea is in the Rockingham County jail under a $150,000 bond.
Williams' body was found in Bethea's backyard, according to the sheriff's office.
