GCS announces more new principal appointments

GREENSBORO – Guilford County Schools announced additional principal assignments for the 2009-10 school year Thursday.

Rydell Harrison, who was assistant principal at Jackson Middle, will be the principal at Sternberger Elementary. Harrison has worked at Sternberger in the past as a tutor and teacher and has been employed by the district since 2006.

Harrison holds master’s degrees from Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) and a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University.

Andrew Gann will be the principal at Sedalia Elementary. He was the assistant principal at Alamance Elementary and has been with the district since 1999.

Gann, who received his National Board Certification for teaching, was a first- and second-grade teacher at Oak Ridge Elementary before earning his Master of School Administration degree from UNCG. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from the university.

 

Jeffrey Uhlenberg, who will be the principal at Kernodle Middle, is returning to GCS after serving as principal of Franklinville Elementary in Randolph County Schools since 2006. From 1996 to 1999, Uhlenberg was a fourth-grade teacher at Hunter Elementary and from 1999 to 2000 he was a sixth-grade teacher at Northwest Middle.

From 2002 to 2003, he was a teacher at Rift Valley Academy in Kenya, an American curriculum boarding school for the children of missionaries. He holds master’s degrees from UNCG and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College.

The district has also reassigned a number of other principals, including Charles Blanchard, who will move from The Early College at Guilford to Southeast High. Bobby Hayes, who served the district as an instructional improvement officer, will be the principal of The Early College at Guilford.

All of the appointments go into effect July 1.

I think that Rydell Harrison will do a fabulous job at Sternberger!! Congratulations to STERNBERGER for getting a great leader and person!
