CHARLOTTE (AP) — The Charlotte Bobcats have selected Duke shooting guard Gerald Henderson with the 12th pick in the draft. He gives coach Larry Brown an athletic, defensive specialist.
In Charlotte's second draft teaming Brown and part-owner Michael Jordan, the Bobcats filled an area of need on Thursday. The Bobcats had no clear backup to starter Raja Bell.
The Bobcats had brought in Henderson and fellow shooting guard Terrence Williams of Louisville twice for workouts. Williams went to New Jersey with the 11th pick, clearing the way for Henderson.
The son of former NBA player Gerald Henderson Sr., the former Duke star averaged 16.5 points as a junior last season.
The Bobcats also held two second-round picks, 40th and 54th overall.
