Several events are happening this weekend in Rockingham County.
Today, the Touring Theatre of North Carolina travels to Rockingham Community College for an outdoor performance of “Piece Work,” an adaptation of Barbara Presnell’s book about work in the South at textile mills.
“It is a weaving together of words and voices,” said Presnell. “It has both the rhythm and the cacophony of the machinery of the mill, the individuality of the people who work there. It is an amazing work.”
The one-hour play is free and will be held in the Apple Amphitheater.
If you are a fan of baseball, the District 8 Dixie Youth Baseball Coach Pitch Tournament takes place this weekend at Cherry Grove Ruritan’s Field in Reidsville. Six teams compete for the championship, and the winner will advance to the state tournament which will be held July 11 in Eden. Come cheer on your favorite team.
And “CatPoochino Day” kicks off Saturday at Backstreet Buzz Coffee House in downtown Reidsville. The “Food for Furry Friends Campaign” helps the Animal Protection Society of Rockingham County collect food and donations to feed animals in need as they “Help Stop Hunger and Neglect.”
The coffee house will donate 10 percent of the day’s sales and has been designated as a donation site. If you can’t stop by Saturday, drop off donations at your convenience.
