Stokesdale considers liquor-by-the-drink referedum

The Stokesdale Town Council has decided to re-examine a liquor-by-the-drink referendum.

In Thursday’s meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Mickie Holbrook told the council she doesn’t  think the council’s vote in November was an accurate gauge of how the citizens feel about having liquor by the drink and ABC stores in the town.

“Maybe we should let everybody vote on it to see what they want to do,” Holbrook said.

Council members voted unanimously to have another public hearing on the matter and to re-vote on the referendum in the July meeting.

Last year, a resident asked the town council for a referendum to allow residents to vote on liquor by the drink, which, if approved by voters, would also allow an ABC store within the town’s limits.

Stokesdale is a wonderful town and needs to attract both individuals and businesses to help it grow. New restaurants and social meeting places are vehicles for that growth. Prohibition ended 80 years ago. We need to move forward.
