Gibsonville soon will have a pharmacy again.
Todd Smith plans to open Gibsonville Pharmacy at 235 Burke Street in early August.
Smith is renovating one of the spaces in the building that housed Lowes Foods. The 1,800-square-foot space has been empty since Gibsonville Drug Co. closed several years ago.
Smith, who lives in Browns Summit, has been a pharmacist for 15 years and works at Pleasant Garden Drug Store. He said he’s wanted to run his own pharmacy for years .
“It’s been a lifelong dream to do that, and I think we’ve hit on the right opportunity,” he said.
Gibsonville Pharmacy will be an independent drug store under the wholesaler Mutual Drug Co. and will be able to process the same types of health insurance as major chain pharmacies can, Smith said.
He plans to offer free delivery within at least a 10-mile radius of the store. Gibsonville Pharmacy will carry cards, toiletry items and other basic goods.
Smith is extending the pharmacy counter area inside the site, adding shelving and installing a canopy over the drive-through.
“It’s going to be totally new inside and brought up to date,” he said.
