What's going on? A new tax could be passed for local rentals of heavy equipment. The 1.2 percent tax would raise about $100,000 annually, which would replace county income earned from a state tax on heavy equipment that was repealed. Another discussion about removing health insurance for future retirees could be postponed, according to Chairman Melvin “Skip” Alston.
Want to be heard? Speakers can address the board on non-agenda items regarding county business for three minutes at the start of the meeting. A signup sheet will be available near the lectern.

What's next? Alston said that the health insurance issue wouldn’t affect current employees but those hired later. Even so, he suggested that commissioners might want to have the discussion in a work session and hear presentations before making a decision.
