WINSTON-SALEM -- Ernest Edwards won nearly $300,000 playing North Carolina's "Carolina Cash 5" lottery game based on numbers that have a special family significance.

The Winston-Salem resident matched all five numbers in the June 13 drawing to win $294,379. The numbers were: 15, 16, 18, 27 and 35.

Edwards bought the ticket, which was worth $200,178.36 after taxes, at the Xpress Food Mart on South Main Street in Winston-Salem.

He told lottery officials that he feels overjoyed and plans to add most of his winnings to his retirement nest egg.

But not before fulfilling a promise he made to his wife: They're taking a cruise using some of his winnings.
