Dudley point guard Helen Terry, Reidsville forward Eleisha Hairston and East Davidson forward Anna Freeman have been chosen to play in the N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game on July 20 at the Greensboro Coliseum.
All three will play for the West side, which won 75-73 last year behind an MVP performance from former Grimsley star Trumae Lucas.
Terry, who will play at Georgia Southern next season, will be coached in the East-West game by Gastonia Forestview's Ken Beaty, whose team she helped beat in the 3-A state finals. Hairston is an Elon signee. Freeman has signed with Appalachian State.
Joining them on the West roster will be Nikki Burton (West Charlotte), Christal Caldwell (West Charlotte), Jazmin Cromartie (Parkland), Ali Ford (Morganton Freedom), Jaquaria Forney (Matthews Butler), Keyrra Gillespie (Statesville) and Celeste Stewart (Matthews Butler).
Jamie Willoughby of Tarboro will coach the East girls. The roster consists of LaKevia Boykin (Southeast Raleigh), Amber Calvin (Hope Mills South View), Tierra Coleman (Western Harnett), Jazmine Cooper (Fayetteville South View), Kelsey Evans (Raleigh Wakefield), Alyssa Luebs (Havelock), Joan Shontel Mallory (Roanoke Rapids Weldon), Sasha Millington (Clinton), Asia Williams (Durham Hillside), and Sarah Wollett (Raleigh Wakefield).
Last week the boys basketball rosters were announced.
Howard West of Reagan will coach the West. The team consists of Drew Absher (Davie County), Julius Brooks (Page), Wakefield Ellison (Asheville), Kyle Gaillard (North Mecklenburg), Michael Grace (Mount Tabor), C.J. Harris (Mount Tabor), Eric Mayo (Shelby), Josh Pittman (Trinity), Keith Rendleman (East Lincoln) and K.J. Sherrill (West Rowan).
David Dewey of South Johnston will coach the East boys. The team consists of Zach Faircloth (Fayetteville Sanford), Michael George II (Raleigh Leesville Road), Ricky Krainiak (Camden County), Jaron Lane (Greenville Conley), Stan Okoye (Raleigh Knightdale), Marcellous Perez (Jacksonville Northside, Candon Rusin (Topsail), Trey Sumler (Nash Central), Alex Tucker (Lee Senior) and DaMetrius Upchurch (Raleigh Garner Magnet).
BASEBALL
HITOMS 5, ASHEBORO 3: Stewart Ijames clubbed a three-run home run in the eighth inning to lift the HiToms (7-7) past the Asheboro Copperheads (5-10) in Coastal Plain League baseball at Finch Field in Thomasville.
GOLF
N.C. AMATEUR: Two Smithfield golfers claimed the top two spots in the North Carolina Amateur Championship at Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham. Nineteen-year-old Mark McMillen fired a 5-under par 67 to claim the championship. Derek Wallace, who attends UNC-Wilmington, finished in second along with David Watkins of Hamlet. Greensboro's Will Bowman of UNCG finished in a tie for fourth and Greensboro's Scott Harvey finished in a tie for ninth.
AUTO RACING
PIEDMONT DRAGWAY: Travis Harvey of Burlington won the rain-delayed Big Dog Shootout on Saturday at Piedmont Dragway. Harvey bested Darrin Hoyle in the finals.
