BB&T CEO named honorary Wyndham chair
GREENSBORO — Kelly S. King, the chief executive officer of BB&T Corp., has been named honorary chairman of the 2009 Wyndham Championship golf tournament.
King, of Winston-Salem, has been the bank's CEO since Jan. 1. He joined the bank in 1972. The Raleigh native is chairman of the Piedmont Triad Leadership Group, immediate past chair of the United Way Tocqueville Leadership Campaign and the United Way Tocqueville Leadership Society, and a board member of the N.C. Chamber of Commerce.
Past tournament chairs include Allen Gant, president and chief executive officer of Glen Raven Inc. in Burlington; Mackey McDonald, former chairman and CEO of VF Corp.; and Dennis Glass, president and CEO of Lincoln Financial Group.
The 70th Wyndham Championship will be played at the Sedgefield County Club on Aug. 17-23.
