AT&T expands wireless coverage in Greensboro

GREENSBORO — AT&T today announced the activation of a new cell site in Greensboro, which the company says will improve coverage for homes and businesses surrounding Lake Townsend.

This site is the first of six new sites planned for the Greensboro area this year, according to AT&T.

AT&T has more than 90 planned new cell sites for the Carolinas this year.

“Investments in technology, such as this new cell site, strengthen our community,” Mayor Yvonne Johnson said in a statement.

AT&T invested more than $1.2 billion in its North Carolina wireless and wireline networks from 2006 to 2008, the company said.

As part of its 2009 investment, AT&T plans to expand 3G service in Greensboro this year.

Customers can also learn more about network plans and AT&T services by visiting the AT&T store at the Four Seasons Town Center in Greensboro.

I hope that AT&T is planning to offer a complete service of cable tv, internet and phone service to this area as Time-Warner cable needs some real competition.

I agree! My brother just signed up for AT&T U-verse (their cable TV service) in Raleigh and it is much, much better than Time Warner Cable. They even paid him $200 for switching from Time Warner! I wish they would hurry up and make it available her, but, as is usually the case, Greensboro tends to be last to get anything.

I'm a U-verse customer the minute the get it up and running. Unless of course it doesn't happen by the summers end, in which case I'll be heading to DirectTV. Please hurry up AT&T....

This is absurd! I live near Friendly Center - in "Hamilton Forest" - and we get terrible service here. From West Market Street through Hamilton Lakes, from Westminster Presbyterian to Westridge and all around I can't make a single call. How annoying is it to have to drive OUT of your neighborhood, go outside, or go upstairs to make a CELL PHONE call? And they're boosting Lake Townsend area coverage??? Give me a break...

FIX what we call "THE CELLULAR MATRIX."

I'd like to point out that I had full coverage EVERYWHERE in the Dominican Republic. Even in small and rural villages.

It's not just AT&T providing a cone of silence in the area you describe. Sprint/Nextel and Verizon also do not get good reception in this area. It has more to do with the dense residential housing than anything else. Unless you want a cell tower in your backyard there isn't much that can be done.
