More than 25 area restaurants, hotels, caterers and beverage distributors roll out their best for Taste, a culinary sampling and silent auction presented by the Guilford County Hotel/Motel Association.
The event, a benefit for Greensboro Urban Ministry and the GTCC Culinary Technology program, is from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Greensboro Embassy Suites, 204 Centreport Drive near the Piedmont Triad International Airport.

Ice cream shop opened
Scoops of Paradise (4620-G Woody Mill Road, Greensboro; 676-7123) has opened at The Shoppes at Forest Oaks at the intersection of Old Liberty Road (U.S. 421 Business).
A grand opening is planned from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.
The scoop shop offers ice cream, sundaes, banana splits, milk shakes, floats and smoothies.
Coffee, bottled water and sodas are offered. The shop also offers Wi-Fi.
Be sure to ask for a frequent buyer card. Buy seven single scoops or seven shakes and get the eighth free.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Cooking and wine class
Green Valley Grill's executive chef Leigh Hesling will prepare a three-course meal and share cooking tips during a cooking class and wine pairing at noon Saturday at the O.Henry Hotel.
Julia Schiavone, Green Valley's sommelier and certified wine educator, will join Hesling for the event.
Cost is $55 plus a 20 percent gratuity. Call 854-2015 to reserve a spot.
Wine tasting
The Vino Shoppe (3800 Tinsley Ave., Suite 103, High Point; 885-0081) is pairing Chinese appetizers from Full Kee Restaurant (3793-145 Samet Drive, High Point; 841-1895) with wines from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
In turn, Full Kee will host a wine dinner featuring wines from The Vino Shoppe on June 22. Details to come.
Sweet Shop to open
According to its Web site (www.margaretelainedesigns. com/index.html), The Sweet Shop, 631-A S. Elm St. in downtown Greensboro, will hold a soft opening from 7 a.m. to noon Friday.
The Web site says the shop will offer 30 varieties of pound cake, bagels and muffins, cobblers and pies, peanuts and candy, smoothies and coffee and espresso drinks.
And there's more to come.
Anniversary deal
Cafe Pasta and Grille (305 State St., Greensboro) is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a three-course dinner for $25.
The offer lasts through the end of June.
