CHARLOTTE ARDREY KELL 1, RALEIGH SANDERSON 0: Junior Ryan Butler pitched a complete game four-hit shutout as Charlotte Ardrey Kell banked Raleigh Sanderson on Saturday to sweep the NCHSAA state 4-A baseball championship series at Doak Field on the campus of N.C. State. Butler's performance earned him the MPV award for the championship. Ardrey Kell opened the series Friday night with a 9-5 victory. The only run of the game came in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Stetson.

LAKE NORMAN 8, EASTERN WAYNE 7: Lake Norman built a big lead and then held off Eastern Wayne in the third and final game of the NCHSAA 3-A championship series at Five County Stadium in Zebulon. Senior pitcher-outfielder Nick Lomascolo of Lake Norman was named the series MVP. The Wildcats grabbed the series lead Friday with a 9-2 victory in the opener. Eastern Wayne evened the series earlier Saturday with a 3-0 win as freshman pitcher Zach Mozingo and John Wooten combined for a one-hit shutout. Lake Norman finished 28-3.
1-A CHAMPIONSHIP
SOUTH STANLY 7, HAMPSTEAD TOPSAIL 2: Senior righthander Ryne Poplin contributed with both his arm and his bat to lead South Stanly over Hampstead Topsail and a sweep of the best-of-three NCHSAA state 1-A baseball championship series at Five County Stadium in Zebulon. Poplin got the win on the mound to run his record to 9-1, striking out five, and also had a run-scoring single in the sixth. Wes Hatley of South Stanly was named series MVP.
