Ben Fulp, (foreground, left) 18, and Michael Clark, (background, second from left) 17, both seniors at McMichael High School in Mayodan, N.C., have converted a 1988 Ford Mustang LX to operate on 8 deep-cycle Marine batteries which provide 96 volts of direct current. The two students, enrolled in the technology studies class at the high school, say they have worked since December 2008 to convert the vehicle which they say is street legal.
