This year's Triad Idol competition brought together a wide age range, including adults, teens and even a 9-year-old who enjoys riding dirt bikes, playing sports, all things Disney and, of course, singing.
Backstage at the Carolina Theatre in Greensboro, 42 contestants prepared to compete in the fifth annual competition, having made it through the 500 or so folks who tried out at local malls in April.
Contestants in three age categories (8-12, 13-18 and 19-and-older) were judged on singing ability, vocal style and stage presence by a panel of judges. The audience was also able to weigh in with $1 votes in ballot boxes for each singer.
The event is the annual fundraiser for the Community Theatre of Greensboro.
