Northwest Guilford's softball season ended Tuesday night with a 10-0 loss at North Davidson in a 4-A West district final.
Vikings head coach Jason Tew said his players appeared relaxed on the bus ride to perennial power North Davidson (26-1), but they showed some nerves once the game started, managing just one base hit.
"Hitting is contagious, but not hitting is contagious as well," Tew said. "I don't know if they were awed by the field or the crowd, but it finally sunk in that they were playing North Davidson."
The Vikings finished 19-4.
"This team had a special bond that was more important than winning ballgames," Tew said. "It sounds Hallmark-ish, but they're better people for being on the team hopefully."
