GREENSBORO – Police on Wednesday released the identity of a woman whose body was found Monday morning outside a Greensboro apartment complex.
The woman was identified as Angela Marie “Crystal” Woodard, 34, according to police.
Woodard was strangled to death before her body was found at 1000 Douglas St. at 8:30 a.m. Monday near the RS King Apartment complex by a resident.
Woodard was originally from Atlanta, but had been living in Greensboro for two years, police said.
Capt. Janice Rogers said Woodard was found in an open area, leading detectives believe she may have been killed Sunday night or early Monday.
Rogers said Woodard had no permanent address listed in Greensboro and detectives had difficulty identifying her.
“We had difficulty finding her real name, she had no identification on her and had to use fingerprints to get her ID’d,” Rogers said.
Police were able to track down Woodard’s family late Wednesday afternoon to notify them of her death.
Rogers said detectives have not identified murder weapon and have not named any suspects.
She declined comment on whether the body showed signs of other distress beyond strangulation.
It is unclear why Woodard moved to Greensboro and said investigators have been unable to determine if she was working anywhere, Rogers said.
Woodard's family could not be reached for comment Wednesday evening.
Police are asking anyone who may have information in the case or knew Woodard to contact Crime Stoppers at 373-1000.
Callers remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward.
