The House honored the High Point Furniture Market’s 100th anniversary, passing a resolution that declared “the High Point Market should be recognized for 100 years of providing a world showcase for home furnishings and the State of North Carolina itself.”
Such resolutions are frequently used to mark important milestones in the history of municipal governments or other local institutions.
The High Point measure passed unanimously.
Rep. Laura Wiley, a High Point Republican, likened the market to other state treasurers such as the beaches or Grandfather Mountain.
“What would a state treasure be without souvenirs,” she asked. “The market type of souvenirs are all over your houses and offices. You sit on them, you sleep on them, and you have dinner at them.”
Officials from High Point included several City Council members and the head of the High Point Market Authority.
