Margaret Smith, Bennett School PTA Thrift Shop representative, is a special treasure, and we hold her dear to our hearts for the countless hours she volunteers at the Chatham County PTA Thrift Stores so that we can take our class field trip to New York and Pennsylvania each year.
The PTA Thrift Shop is a nonprofit organization that relies on donations to provide bargain shopping for the public. The organization is operated by local PTAs. Schools and community members volunteer time, donate items and shop at three Thrift Shop stores to help school projects. Funding to each Chatham County School is determined by the number of volunteer hours worked.
Margaret Smith has been volunteering for Bennett School for five years. Each eighth-grade student going on the class trip is required to work at least 25 hours. All of the eighth-graders from the past five years could never repay Mrs. Smith. Our class would not be able to go to New York City without her long hours and her dedication.
She coordinates and supervises each of our work nights. Her husband, Ronnie, and her two sons, Brian and Kevin, also help empty the four drop boxes in the Siler City area where donations are left.
Volunteers like Margaret Smith are a gift from above who reflect the selflessness of God’s love.
