Update: Shooting deaths were murder/suicide
GREENSBORO — Two deaths Saturday night were the result of a murder-suicide related to a domestic problem between a man and his girlfriend, police said Monday.
Detectives believe Larry Irving Jr., 27, shot and killed Shakia Monroe, 22, before taking his own life about 10:20 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Trace West Apartments at 1816 B Boulevard St.
Neighbors said the couple had lived in the complex for a month and that no one knew them well.
A neighbor called 911 after hearing several gunshots.
Detectives said their investigation is ongoing and anyone with information in the case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 373-1000 or the Criminal Investigation Division at 373-2255.
The deaths were the city’s 7th homicide case of 2009.
