Rockingham County weekend: Concerts at Chinqua Penn, Ruffin and Mayodan

Music is the theme of our weekend events in Rockingham County beginning Thursday with the Chinqua Penn Vineyards Spring Music Series.

Concerts at Chinqua Penn begin at 6 p.m. each Thursday in May and offer you a chance to relax, sip wine and listen to lovely music. Featured tonight will be the folk and blues music of Bruce Piephoff. Pack a picnic or purchase your meal catered by Mom’s Kitchen. Entry to the grounds is free, so “Wine, Dine and Have a Good Time” under the stars.

If you enjoy gospel music, head over to the big tent at Happy Home Church in Ruffin on Saturday and enjoy an evening of gospel singing with Mercy’s Promise, Stained Glass, Marc Ivey and the Down East Boys. Dinner is available for purchase and remember to bring your lawn chairs.

And for those of us who love country and bluegrass music, the Mayodan Preservation League presents an evening you won’t want to miss with Music in the Park. This free concert begins at 6 p.m. Saturday with musical performances by Almost Country. A hot dog dinner is available for purchase, so you won’t have to cook. Take your favorite lawn chair or blanket and relax.

Thursday Night in Downtown Reidsville. Stroll sidewalks, have a meal, enjoy shopping, take a class, try some wine, explore galleries, relax with a cup of coffee, visit the library, see a movie or take home some paint to spruce up your house. Merchants open until 8 p.m.
