GREENSBORO — N.C. A&T football fans have had little to cheer about in recent years, so let’s give them some good news four months before the opening kickoff.
You’re 1-0, Aggies. Congratulations.
The Delaware State Hornets, who have owned the Aggies for the past five years, forfeited their Oct. 17 game with conference foe A&T when the two schools could not resolve a scheduling conflict.
Delaware State wants to visit Michigan, which figures to offer a large financial guarantee and a crowd of more than 100,000, on Oct. 17 rather than come to Greensboro. Unable to reach a suitable alternate date, the Hornets agreed to the loss.
Since the Aggies have won just three games over the past three years — they’ve lost to Delaware State by a combined 69-7 score the past two years — no one at A&T is heartbroken.
“It is unfortunate” the two won’t play this year, said A&T Athletics Director Wheeler Brown. “On the other side of the coin, it is good to know in May you are already 1-0.”
