Northeast Park will host two free events in May for people who want to experience the outdoors or clean up local waterways.

On Youth Conservation Day, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, kids and teens can learn about archery, gun safety, canoeing and kayaking, ATV safety, fishing, game calls and more.

The event is open to youth ages 7 to 17. Participants must be accompanied by an adult. If bringing a group, there must be at least one adult per five youths.

The park will host a kayak and litter cleanup at 9 a.m. May 23. Paddle the Reedy Fork and Buffalo creeks while clearing the banks of litter. The creeks feed into the Haw River.

Get Outdoors of Greensboro will provide kayaks and canoes for the event, free of charge. Participants can bring their own kayaks and canoes as well.

Beginners are welcome. Participants can paddle some or all of the seven-mile stretch.
