GREENSBORO – A Guilford County School bus and a pickup collided head on Monday afternoon along White Street sending multiple people to the hospital.

The crash happened just after 3 p.m. near the intersection of Partnership Court.

Police said the driver of school bus No. 906 drove away from a stop sign at Partnership Court too soon and drove into the path of an oncoming Ford F150 pick up truck.

The driver of the truck and a child passenger, whose identities were not available, were transported to Cone Hospital, as was one child on the school bus, according to police and witness accounts. Police reported only minor injuries.

Officials with Guilford County Schools identified the bus driver as Kim Whitsett and said there were four children on the bus being taken home from Ceasar Cone Elementary School.

Kenneth Odom, a parent who arrived on the scene, said three children on the bus were his, including 6-year-old Kenna Odom, who was transported to the hospital. Kenna was treated and released from the hospital Monday evening, her parents said.

As of late Monday, police had not released specific details of how the crash occurred, other than say the bus driver pulled out too soon and that charges are pending.

Damage to both vehicles was minor, though the pick up truck had to be towed after stopping in a nearby ditch.

The bus endured a flat front left tire and a busted head light and was also towed.
