Greensboro police's Crime Stoppers program was recently recognized for having the most arrests and largest amount of drugs and property recovered in the southeastern United States in 2008.
The program received a productivity award from the the Southeastern Crime Stoppers Association during its annual conference recently held in Virginia Beach, Va.
It was the eighth time the department won the award.
Crime Stoppers is a community policing program started in Greensboro in 1981.
To date, it has cleared 6,608 cases with 9,476 arrests, according to figures Greensboro police provided.
It has also recovered more than $16 million in drugs and property.
In 2008, Crime Stoppers made 720 arrests and recovered $242,320 in drugs and property.
