Tico Wallace, who lives near my parents, has gone out of his way to ensure that my parents are safe and sound.
He would come by every morning and have coffee with my dad (who passed away March 31) and became his “coffee buddy.” He would bring in the newspaper, pour the coffee and the two of them would solve all the world’s problems every morning.
Tico made sure my dad made all his chemo appointments and was there every time my dad went to the hospital to be his advocate. When Dad was having a bad week, Tico made sure the yard was mowed, and it looked just as my dad liked it.
He always treated Dad with tremendous respect and compassion and was truly my dad’s best friend.
I can’t express how much I appreciate Tico. Living far away in Boise, Idaho, I always know that my mom is being looked after and has a neighbor that will keep her safe. More importantly, I know that my dad had a caring and trusted friend who made his last days so much better.
There is a special place in Heaven for this wonderful man.

One cold, rainy night in October last year, as I crossed Battleground Avenue, a young man ran a red light and crashed into my car.
I was alone and scared. Two people stopped and came to my aid, called the police and stayed with me until police arrived. They gave their names as witnesses and gave me moral support until my family got there. I am forever grateful.
