Tiffany S. Jones: One day for Mom? Not enough!

It’s the second Sunday in May, the one day a year we set aside to show moms just how much we appreciate them.

I’m sorry. Sorry that there’s only one day on the calendar set aside for moms. They deserve more than one day. In fact, there aren’t enough days on the calendar to show proper appreciation for all that moms do.

Think about it. She carried you for nine months. She had to give up caffeine and the occasional adult beverage to make sure you turned out OK. She changed your diapers, fed you and groomed you. She punished you when you acted up, helped you with homework, morphed into your chauffeur, coach, psychiatrist and chef all in one day.

And if that’s not enough, she still managed to fix all your ailments with a kiss, a Band-Aid and your favorite meal.

That’s beyond motherhood. That’s magic!

Well, that’s what my mom has done.

I’m older now, but I’m still her baby. If I get hurt or stressed, I call her. We talk, and whatever happens, she says something to put a Band-Aid on it until I can get to her.

I’m nearly 30 and I still call my mom when I have a problem. I’m not ashamed.

I’ll continue to do it until she tells me to stop. But she won’t. I’m still the baby, and if I need her, she’s going to be there.

And that is why she deserves more than one day.

There’s not a dinner I can make, a single flower I can pick out or a box of chocolates I can buy to show her my gratitude. I could never put a price tag on it.

That’s why every chance I get, I treat. I cook for her. I might buy her an outfit or I do all I can to help.

She deserves that and so much more.

It’s the least I can do.
