GREENSBORO — The Atlantic Coast Conference will play its 2010 baseball championship at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro.
The conference said today it will move the 37th annual tournament to Greensboro from Fenway Park in Boston to reduce travel costs.
Commissioner John Swofford said the conference will try to return to Boston at a later date.
“Cost-containment is very much universal at this point, and our conference and our schools are no exception,” Swofford said in a statement. “With so many issues at the moment in terms of budget and travel, we simply felt it was in the best interests of all concerned to hold the 2010 event at a more centrally located venue.
The 2010 tournament will run May 26-30.
This year’s tournament will be held May 20-24 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham.
NewBridge Bank Park seats about 7,500 people and is home to the single-A Greensboro Grasshoppers. The ACC is based in Greensboro.
