Duke, UNC earn seeds into men's lacrosse tourney

Duke received the No. 3 seed for the NCAA men's lacrosse tournament and will host Navy on Saturday at Koskinen Stadium. Game time is 7:30 p.m., (ESPNU). North Carolina received the No. 6 seed and will host Maryland-Baltimore County on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Virginia earned the No. 1 seed and will host Villanova on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Maryland also received a bid and will travel to No. 7-seed Notre Dame on Sunday at noon.

BASEBALL

N.C. A&T 14, COPPIN STATE 9: Senior Jaron Neal hit two home runs and Nick Rogers hit his MEAC-leading 10th home run of the season to lead the N.C. A&T (17-31, 9-8 MEAC). Neal was 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

WESTERN CAROLINA 9, UNCG 4: Western Carolina (30-17, 16-7 SoCon) swept UNCG (16-26, 4-18) behind Stephen Notaro's four RBIs.

ELON 23, WOFFORD 7: Elon pounded out 20 hits. The Phoenix (33-13, 20-4 SoCon) has won nine straight overall, 13 consecutive at home and 14 in a row in SoCon play.

N.C. STATE 15-15, N.C. CENTRAL 5-2: N.C. State's Cameron Conner went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs in the nightcap.

NO. 21 EAST CAROLINA 9, LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE 4: Brad Mincey fanned a career-high seven batters as No. 21 East Carolina (35-14) swept non-conference foe La.-Lafayette (21-25-1).

SOFTBALL

N.C. A&T 2, BETHUNE-COOKMAN 1: Lillian Bullock's suicide squeeze in the fourth lifted N.C. A&T (24-21, 5-7 MEAC).

ELON 3, UNCG 0: Danielle Lafferty's two-run single highlighted a three-run fourth for Elon.

HONORS

GUILFORD: Jennifer Abelin earned first-team all-ODAC in women's lacrosse. Carrie Ernst and Shelly Nogueira were second-team picks.

AUTO RACING

PIEDMONT DRAGWAY: Freddy Bowden of Walkertown won the IHRA Top Eliminator race at Piedmont Dragway on Saturday. He bested Lexington's Mickey Walters in the finals. In the Sportsman-footbrake championship, Scott May of Archdale bested Ricky Greer of Winston-Salem. Zack Houser of Lincolnton topped Matt Murphy of Winston-Salem in the Junior Dragster championship. The Motorcycle race winner was Tim Hill of Asheboro over Horace Wright of Asheboro.
