MOORESVILLE (AP) — Home improvement chain Lowe's says some of its stores in areas affected by swine flu are seeing stronger sales of bleach, mops and other disinfectants.

Officials at the Mooresville-based company said Monday sales for hand sanitizer and masks also increased over the weekend, especially in Texas. Lowe's spokeswoman Chris Ahern said the company is monitoring sales and has sufficient inventory to meet rising demand.

Federal officials have confirmed 41 cases of swine flu in the U.S., though none was in North Carolina.

No deaths have been reported in the U.S., but the virus is being blamed for as many as 149 deaths in Mexico, where more than 1,600 cases of the illness are suspected.
