A column from News & Record publisher Robin Saul:
Each day our goal is to produce a newspaper that keeps you informed about your world and helps you live your life.
Because national news and advertising are available in so many places and many different formats, our mission is to be the most reliable and complete source for local information.
It is no secret that newspaper companies, like many other businesses, have been hit hard by this economic recession. Our primary source of income, advertising revenue, has fallen dramatically as our community’s businesses deal with the pressures of the economy.
Like other businesses, the News & Record has made some tough decisions and changes to lower expenses and remain profitable and viable.
This week, we will make some changes to the newspaper to better use newsprint, which is our most expensive resource.
Starting Wednesday, we will combine the first section and the Local section into one main news section Monday through Saturday. You will receive three newspaper sections Wednesday through Saturday: the main news section, Sports and Life/Savor.
Beginning Monday, May 4, we will combine Sports and Life into one section each Monday and Tuesday, resulting in the News & Record having two sections on those days.
Making these changes will allow us to design the newspaper more tightly, using our newsprint more efficiently.
Two things will not change: the Sunday paper and our commitment to providing you the most thorough and reliable news content.
We recognize these changes may be unsettling for some readers. However, please evaluate us on the quality of the content, not on the number of sections.
Thank you for reading the News & Record. For over 119 years we have been Guilford County’s leading source for local news, advertising and information. We remain committed to serving you and the community for many more years.
Not all of the newspaper's content appears online.
