PLEASANT GARDEN — A two-alarm fire destroyed a home near Pleasant Garden Friday evening.

The fire at 5010 Mallard Lake Drive broke out shortly after 9 p.m. When firefighters arrived a few minutes later, flames were already shooting out of the home’s attic and a front window.

Firefighters contained the blaze in about 25 minutes, but the single-story brick home was a complete loss.

Investigators have not yet determined the fire’s origin or cause. No one was home at the time and there were no injuries, said Chief Kevin Bowers, with the Alamance Community Fire Department.

Crews from Pleasant Garden, Southeast and Greensboro fire departments responded to the fire, along with paramedics and police.

Traffic was blocked along Liberty Road as far as a mile from the house so firefighters could extend hoses to available hydrants.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family with temporary shelter.

The address is just outside the Pleasant Garden town limits just east of U.S. 421.
