GREENSBORO — Police said today that they are investigating three sexual assault cases that occurred in one part of the city during the past seven months.

The assaults occurred in the area around Covey Lane, West Vandalia Road and Summertree Loop, according to a news release.

All occurred at different times, between 4:50 a.m. and 11:45 p.m.

Capt. Janice Rogers said in two of the attacks, the suspect broke into residences and assaulted the victims. In the other case, the victim was attacked in a parking lot as she went into an apartment.

Rogers said the suspect used a knife to threaten the victim in one case, but in all cases, he did not physically abuse the victim other than in the course of the sexual assault.

The attacks happened on Sept. 14 and Oct. 24 last year and again on April 12.

One of the attacks happened at the Arbor Crest Apartment complex, Rogers said. She did not know the name of the other complex, but maps indicate they happened at or near the Summertree Apartment complex.

All of the victims were between 20 and 30 years old.

The suspect is described as a man wearing a full face mask and all dark clothing.

Rogers said police have no other description of the suspect, including an age, race or method of leaving the scene.

“We have given the information to apartment managers to give out to people in their complexes for them to pay attention to what is going on,” Rogers said.

“We want them to pay attention to lighting and be on extra alert for peeping toms and anyone else suspicious in the complexes.

“We want to heighten awareness because this is the time of year where people leave their windows open and curtains are left flapping.”

Anyone with information on the cases is urged to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 373-2255 or Crime Stoppers at 373-1000.

Crime Stoppers callers remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward.

The law has got to get stronger for these types of crimes. There is no sense in arresting someone for it and giving them a few months in prison, only to let them out to do it again, over and over. These are criminals destroying peoples lives. If the death penalty were brought in to effect you would not hear of it happening very much. This goes for those raping children also. It's the only way to put a stop to it. It's a waste of money, time and space to keep these criminals locked up. When you have a vicious animal you destroy it. Same difference. Put an end to these vicious criminals once and for all.
