Developer pulls rezoning request in protest petition case

GREENSBORO – A developer pulled a rezoning request, after neighbors filed a protest petition against the project.

Prestwick Development LLC, based in Atlanta, wanted to build a multi-family development at a 4.8 acre piece of land off of West Wendover Avenue and Meadowood Street.

The rezoning request was to be heard by city council Tuesday night. But the developer requested that it be withdrawn.

About 40 residents opposed the project by signing a protest petition, a tool that makes it harder to pass a rezoning when abutting property owners are against it.

The petition, which was validated by the city staff, was to be the city’s first protest petition since the zoning tool was restored by the state legislature last month. Previously, Greensboro was the only city in the state exempt from the zoning law.
