The Town of Elon’s Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday night to push back a quasi-judicial hearing for a debated new apartment complex on University Drive.

The quasi-judicial hearing over a special use permit for Blue Ridge Development Company, which began at last week’s meeting, will be continued at the board’s next meeting on May 12.

Blue Ridge Development seeks to begin construction on a new 240-unit apartment complex called the Legacy at Elon, which would have driveway access at the Cook Road Extension and University Drive. The complex would also include land in Gibsonville.

Residents at last week’s meeting expressed concern about adding more traffic to the road where Elon chemistry professor Eugene Gooch was killed while cycling April 3.

The board approved a rezoning request by Third Elon Properties for a parcel of land on West Summerbell Avenue. The property was rezoned from town center to urban residential and will eventually be used to build a new apartment complex.
