Visitors to Reno’s Pizza on Monday will see many new faces among the wait staff and kitchen workers.
Community members will help run the downtown restaurant that day for the “Food Fight” fundraiser. The restaurant’s profits will go to Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
“I’ve never waited on a table, but I’m going to learn quick,” said Gibsonville resident Donna Eaton , a two-time cancer survivor. Her husband, Frank Eaton, will work as a waiter, too.
The Rev. Brian Ayers from First Baptist Church of Gibsonville and other church members will help throughout the day.
The restaurant will serve from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Also, volunteers will set up tents with tables and chairs on the town greens where people can eat their take-out food. As usual, delivery is also available.
“I hope we make $5,000,” said restaurant owner Tiffany Lattero. “We’re really trying to make this a big thing.”
Reno’s Pizza employees volunteered to work without pay for the day.
“Cancer affects so many people,” said Lattero, who owns the restaurant with her husband.
Lattero’s mother-in-law, who lives in Italy, has battled cancer multiple times. And in January, the town mourned the death of Gibsonville native Kay Yow, who fought breast cancer for decades.
“I count my blessings every day,” said Donna Eaton, who has survived breast and thyroid cancer. “You’ve got to have hope and you’ve got to keep on going. You’ve got to keep helping other people.”
