GIBSONVILLE — Gibsonville soon will have a community garden on Dick Street.
The Board of Aldermen approved use of town land for the garden at a board meeting April 6.
The garden will be divided into 15 to 20 plots. People would apply to be plot holders and pay a small fee, probably $10. Gardeners will use sustainable practices to minimize negative effects on the environment and protect the soil.
Christine Stewart and a small group of other Gibsonville residents will oversee the half-acre of land.
The group is planning a ground-breaking event where people can get more information.
Also at the meeting:
• The board voted to make the 15-minute parking signs on West Main Street permanent. However, police won’t begin enforcement until July, the beginning of the new fiscal year. The town still must iron out details concerning enforcement and fees.
• The town recognized Matthew Griffin as the Police Officer of the Quarter Award winner.
• The board approved a resolution endorsing Guilford County’s updated waste management plan.
• The board voted to grant an auditing contract to Oxford-based accounting firm Winston, Williams, Creech, Evans & Company.
