GREENSBORO — After 24 years at 105 Smyres Place, Southern Lights Bistro plans to relocate.

Owner Peter Hamilton is stepping aside and letting partner John Drees take over the restaurant. The lease is up at the end of April, and Drees has decided the time is right to move the restaurant.

“John (Drees) is going to go ahead with it," Hamilton said. “Very little will change. The menu will be the same; the service, the food will be the same.”

Hamilton said there should also be little change in the staff.

A new location has not been chosen. Drees hopes to announce the new location in a few days.

Hamilton and Drees will continue to operate their sister restaurant, 1618 West Seafood Grill, across the street at 1618 W. Friendly Ave.

Southern Lights will remain open until April 28. It will continue to serve lunch Monday through Friday and dinner daily until then.

John and Peter, I came along by pure chance and what a career I have had and continue to have. 105 Smyres will always be that little funky monkey! I'll never forget the times of past, thank you for being Greensboro's BEST restaurant. I and many others have so much to be thankful for just because of Southern Lights! We'll be seeing you soon. Michael
