GREENSBORO – A Greensboro man was arrested last week and charged with stealing hundreds-of-thousands of dollars of property from several Greensboro homes.

Police arrested Stephen Neal Trotter Jr., 35, of 3802 Kirby Drive on April 3 in connection with several residential break-ins over the past few months, according to Greensboro police.

Greensboro police Capt. Janice Rogers said Trotter is accused of breaking into several homes in the Irving Park neighborhood and stealing high-dollar jewelry, rare coins, travelers’ checks and expensive electronic equipment.

Rogers said Trotter grew up in the neighborhood and recently had done some handiwork at some of the victims’ homes that were targeted.

“He went back and broke in and many people recognized him and his vehicle, enabling us to link him to these crimes,” Rogers said.

“We found some of the (stolen) property in his possession.”

Police have not recovered all of the stolen property. Rogers said many of the items were valued more than $100,000 though she could not provide an exact total for the stolen property.

Trotter has been charged with: four counts of felony breaking and entering; five counts of larceny after breaking and entering; four counts of felony possession of stolen property; three counts of obtaining property by false pretense; and one count each of felony larceny, larceny of stolen action (checks) and breaking and entering of an automobile.

He is being held at the Guilford County jail in Greensboro on a $100,000 bond.

Investigations into the cases are ongoing and additional charges are pending.

Anyone with information on the crimes is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 373-1000.
