About 300 items seized from a furniture manufacturer in Catawba County will be auctioned off starting this week.
The state will start taking bids on Thursday for about 200 lots of custom-made furniture and accessories seized by the N.C. Department of Revenue. Items include plush sofas and chairs upholstered in leathers and brocades, numerous accessories and bolts of upholstery fabric.
“Some of these pieces still have price tags as high at $1,999, but I think they will go for much less," State Surplus Property Officer Randy Lee stated in a news release. "Especially in this economy, it’s a good deal for consumers, and the proceeds will direct needed dollars back to the state budget.”
The state will begin accepting sealed bids for the first of two groups of items on Thursday; the second group will go on bid April 24.
By 3 p.m. Thursday, photos and descriptions of each lot to be offered in the first group may be viewed on the State Surplus Property Web site: www.ncstatesurplus.com.
The revenue generated from all surplus property sales is returned to individual state programs, agencies or the general fund.
