JULIAN — A Trinity woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a head-on collision near Julian.

Jean Cunningham Ross, 63, of 3879 Rock Dam Court, died in the collision that happened just after 5 p.m. in the 6200-block of N.C. 62, according to Trooper T.G. Wilson of the Highway Patrol.

Wilson said Ross was traveling northeast in a 1996 Saturn sedan on N.C. 62 when she swerved left of center and struck a 2008 Honda Element traveling southwest head on. She died at the scene.

Ross’ 8-year-old grandson was also in the vehicle and was transported to Moses Cone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Honda, Scott Royle, 43, of High Point was transported to the hospital where he was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Wilson said Ross was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. No charges are expected to be filed and alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.

A third driver’s vehicle was struck by debris from the crash and sustained a cracked windshield. No other injuries were reported. The crash happened just northeast of Coble Church Road.
