Motorcyclists will rumble down Burlington’s Maple Avenue and N.C. 49 on April 18 to help homeless dogs and cats.
The Compassionate Bikers of Alamance County have organized a “Miles for Mutts” all-day event with activities for bikers and non-bikers. Donations will benefit the Humane Society of Alamance County and the Burlington Pet Adoption Center.
The event, based at The Other Place at 1453 Industry Drive, will feature live music, food, vendors and a swap meet.
People can enter to win a 2009 Harley-Davidson Street Glide. The reverse-raffle tickets cost $100, and only 300 will be sold.
Compassionate Bikers will give any proceeds exceeding the cost of the bike to the HSAC.
“We want to hand the Humane Society a $10,000 check,” said Terri Wall, president of the biker group.
People also can enter for door prizes and 50/50 raffles.
People are asked to bring clean, used blankets, towels or comforters and buckle-style dog collars of all sizes, as well as toys, beds, toys and treats for dogs and cats. These items will go to the pet adoption center.
During the benefit ride, motorcyclists will drive to Liberty and back.
They’ll stop at Cuz’s Tavern in Burlington and Liberty Tavern in Liberty. Food will be provided at the end of the ride.
Compassionate Bikers of Alamance County, a new group, began planning the event in October.
Wall said she wants the community to come to Miles for Mutts not just to help homeless animals but to realize that many bikers are involved in charity work and causes.
“We’re not a big group of motorcycle heathens,” she said. “We care a lot.”
