GREENSBORO — After one week of advertising, N.C. A&T officials found out Tuesday the university has 17 people interested in becoming its new boss.
In a meeting Tuesday, A&T’s search committee heard that 14 people have been nominated and three people have applied for the job as university chancellor, a position that educator Stanley Battle will leave this summer.
The committee members will meet again on April 27 and begin poring through the applicants in closed session, so they can recommend two names to the school’s Board of Trustees and ultimately to UNC President Erskine Bowles.
A&T trustees Chairman Franklin McCain said Tuesday he hopes to have a chancellor hired by June 30, the day Battle leaves A&T.
Battle came on board to lead A&T in November 2006, initially earning $255,000 a year. In February, with no comment, Battle announced his intention to leave.
Battle’s replacement will be A&T’s fourth leader since Edward Fort retired in 1999.
