KEEP YOUR EYES ON
* Tyler Hansbrough: The face of the program said he’ll have no regrets win or lose, you can bet he won’t get caught letting up. He had 25 points and 11 rebounds in Carolina’s first win over Michigan State, albeit without having to face center Goran Suton. Tom Izzo said he “loves to hate (Hansbrough) because he knocks you on your tail.”
* Travis Walton: Izzo lauds his lone four-year senior as the best defensive player in the country, and Walton made it known why Saturday when he helped hold UConn’s A.J. Price to 5-of-20 shooting. He’ll check Wayne Ellington.
* Danny Green: Four more 3-pointers like he had Saturday would probably spell victory for Carolina. Equally important will be his defensive assignment of Raymar Morgan, the enigmatic Michigan State forward who broke out of a half-season slump with 18 points, nine rebounds and five steals against UConn.
WORTH NOTING
* Saturday was the first time since Dec. 27 that Michigan State cracked 80 points. Carolina has hit that mark in all but seven games this season. Expect the Spartans to do the Big Ten proud by walking the ball upcourt most of the night.
* Ty Lawson said his injured toe is “almost a hundred percent,” though he’s still using wraps and ice to treat it. He’ll be faced with Michigan State’s Kalin Lucas tonight, a matchup of two of the fastest players in the tournament.
* Roy Williams said Michigan State has 90 different half-court sets, but he won’t ask his players to memorize very many of them. “We give them a two-page scouting report,” Williams said, “and then try to rely on our defensive principles being able to help us with those.”
