WINSTON-SALEM — The Winston-Salem Journal laid off 13 employees Monday and cut another 10 vacant jobs in its latest move to cut costs.
In a story today on its Web site, the newspaper said it eliminated 23 jobs out of a full-time staff of 260. The newspaper has another 85 part-time employees.
The newsroom, production, advertising, circulation and finance departments were affected by Monday's job cuts. In the newsroom, two staff members were laid off, and three vacant positions won't be filled.
The paper said it will give severance packages to laid-off workers.
Monday's announcement is the third round of job cuts since December. In four months, the Journal has eliminated 37 positions through layoffs and unfilled vacancies.
Last month, Media General, the Journal's parent company, said all company employees must take 10 days off without pay by the end of the year.
