RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A former assistant district attorney and five others are facing charges of illegally dismissing North Carolina criminal cases, including impaired driving cases.
A Johnston County grand jury on Monday indicted Cindy Jaeger, four local attorneys and a court clerk on charges including conspiracy and altering official case records.
The State Bureau of Investigation presented evidence Monday morning. Agents seized dozens of driving while impaired cases and other files last summer to examine them for evidence of tampering.
The Attorney General's Office said in a statement that investigators believe the cases were dismissed using forms signed by Jaeger, then filed after she resigned from the Johnston County District Attorney's Office in September 2007.
