McLEANSVILLE — A man serving a sentence at the Guilford Correctional Center, a minimum-security prison, is wanted on a charge of escaping from state prison after he walked away from his work-release assignment on March 13.

Billy Michael Sutton, 29, was serving a sentence for a 2005 conviction of robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to Department of Correction records.

He was working at Road Machinery Services Inc. in Greensboro on March 13 and did not return to the prison that evening. He is described as a white man, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 230 pounds, and authorities believe he may be in Florida, according to a spokesman for the Department of Correction.

Anyone with information about Sutton’s whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at 373-1000 or the Department of Correction at (919) 838-3572.
