GREENSBORO — Police on Thursday released the identity of a 4-year-old girl whose death was ruled a homicide after an incident late Tuesday. Police have yet to release a cause of death or make an arrest.
The child was identified as Kalli Bekia Martin, who police said lived at 1405 Caldwell St. with her cousin Tonya Dobson Williams and Williams’ boyfriend, Anthony Ravon Duncan.
Police were called to the home about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday night on a report of a child not breathing. The girl was taken to Moses Cone Hospital, where she died about 3 a.m. Wednesday.
After an autopsy, police ruled the girl’s death a homicide about midday Wednesday, but so far, police haven’t said how the child died. The autopsy hasn’t been released.
Police Capt. Janice Rogers said Thursday detectives are still investigating the case and could not release further information beyond the identities.
In an official recording of the 911 call made from the residence, a female caller said a 4-year old girl was unconscious and not breathing.
She then handed over the phone to a man she referred to as her fiancé. The 911 operator gave the man instructions on how to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the child.
At one point, the 911 dispatcher asked the man what happened to cause the child to stop breathing.
No response is heard on the tape.
The family’s address and phone number were removed from the tape.
Rogers said the recording was not altered in any other way.
The five-minute phone call ended when the man told the dispatcher that firefighters had arrived.
On Wednesday, Rogers said that seven people were at the home, including the child, Williams and Duncan, at the time the call was made. Police are not elaborating on the identities of the four other occupants, including the number of children present.
The child’s biological parents did not live at the home and were not there at the time of the incident, she said.
Rogers said police are continuing their investigation.
